Background
I am Merlin Williams, an astrophotographer based in Lake Tekapo, within the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, one of the darkest and most protected skies on Earth.
Originally from Melbourne, I made Tekapo my base to pursue imaging nightscapes of New Zealand's beautiful landscapes and night skies, as well as deep-sky imaging of celestial bodies throughout our universe. My work uses narrowband and broadband techniques, with sessions often totalling multiple hours of open-shutter time.
Tekapo sits within one of the world's largest dark sky preserves. At over 700m altitude with over 200 clear nights per year and minimal light pollution, it offers targets invisible from the northern hemisphere, including the Magellanic Clouds and the dynamic Carina Nebula.
I'm available for fine art prints, editorial licensing, and custom night sky photoshoots for visitors to the Mackenzie Basin — just get in touch!
